 REFUND POLICY

Last Updated: January 12, 2026

Effective Date: January 12, 2026

1. MERCHANT OF RECORD

All purchases through Melon Book are processed by Paddle, Inc., our Merchant of Record. This means Paddle acts as the seller of our digital subscription service, and all transactions are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms and Conditions, available at: https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms

You purchase the subscription directly from Paddle, not from Melon Book. This is important for understanding your consumer rights and refund eligibility.

2. APPLICABLE LAW & CONSUMER RIGHTS

This Refund Policy complies with consumer protection regulations in major markets, including EU directives and consumer protection laws in other jurisdictions. Consumers in these regions have statutory rights to cancel purchases of digital content within 14 days.

Your statutory rights are not affected by this policy. Mandatory consumer protection provisions in your jurisdiction always apply.

3. YOUR 14-DAY REFUND RIGHT

As a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel your Melon Book subscription within 14 calendar days from the date of purchase and receive a full refund of the amount paid.

3.1 Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible for a refund if:

- Your refund request is received within 14 days of your purchase date

- You have NOT substantially accessed or benefited from the subscription features

- There is no evidence of fraud or refund abuse

You are NOT eligible for a refund if:

- You have already accessed and downloaded/streamed the digital content (unlimited reviews, author interviews, premium features)

- The subscription service has been substantially used or benefited from

- Your refund request is received more than 14 days after purchase

- You have engaged in refund abuse or manipulative behavior

3.2 14-Day Cancellation Window

The 14-day cancellation period begins on the date you complete your purchase transaction. This is the date shown on your Paddle receipt.

Example: If you purchase a subscription on January 15, your 14-day window ends at 23:59 UTC on January 29.

4. HOW TO REQUEST A REFUND

Refund requests must be submitted to Paddle, not to Melon Book directly.

- Transaction date

- Reason for refund

- Payment method used

5. REFUND APPROVAL & PROCESSING

5.1 Refund Review

Paddle will review your refund request within 3-5 business days. Refunds are approved at Paddle's sole discretion based on:

- Timing of the request (within 14-day window)

- Evidence of substantial use of the service

- Any indicators of fraud or refund abuse

5.2 Approval Status

Once Paddle reviews your request, you will receive notification via email about whether your refund has been:

- APPROVED: Your refund will be processed

- DENIED: Your request does not meet refund eligibility criteria

- NEEDS MORE INFO: Additional information is required from you

5.3 Processing Timeline

Once your refund is APPROVED:

**Credit Card Refunds:** 3-5 business days

- Refunds appear as a credit on your bank or credit card statement

- Processing time depends on your card issuer

**PayPal Refunds:** 24-48 hours

- May take up to 48 hours to appear in your connected bank account

5.4 Partial Refunds

For partial refunds or credits, Paddle may offer:

- Store credit toward future purchases

- Partial refund of the subscription amount

- These are granted at Paddle's discretion

6. SUBSCRIPTION REFUND SPECIFICS

Since Melon Book operates on a subscription model, the following applies:

6.1 First Subscription Period

- You can request a refund within 14 days of your initial purchase

- If approved, you lose access to all premium features immediately

6.2 Renewal Charges

- Each subscription renewal is treated as a new transaction

- You have 14 days from each renewal date to request a refund for that renewal

- Example: If your subscription renews on the 15th of each month, you have until the 29th to request a refund for that renewal

6.3 Cancellation vs. Refund

- CANCELLATION: Stops future renewals (takes effect end of current billing period)

- REFUND: Returns payment for already-charged amounts within the 14-day window

- You can cancel anytime; refunds only apply within 14 days

7. NO REFUND AFTER 14 DAYS

All refund requests received after 14 days from the purchase or renewal date cannot be processed. This is a hard deadline imposed by payment processors and consumer protection law limitations.

7.1 No Exceptions

- Paddle cannot process refunds after the 14-day window closes

- This applies regardless of reason or circumstance

7.2 Alternative Options After 14 Days

If your 14-day window has closed, you may:

- Cancel your subscription to prevent future renewals

- Contact Paddle Support to discuss your specific situation

8.2 Refund Abuse

If you engage in refund abuse, Paddle may:

- Deny your current refund request

- Close your account permanently

- Report your account to fraud prevention networks

- Pursue legal action if applicable

8.3 Chargeback Consequences

If you request a refund AND file a chargeback with your bank:

- Your refund request will be denied

- Your account may be permanently banned

- You may be liable for Paddle's chargeback processing fees

9. SALES TAX REFUNDS

9.1 Tax-Related Refunds

If you paid sales tax and believe you are not subject to taxation:

- You must request a sales tax refund within 60 days of purchase

- Provide a valid sales tax exemption certificate or VAT code

- Requests after 60 days cannot be processed

9.2 Tax Jurisdiction Changes

Sales tax is calculated based on your location at the time of purchase. If your location changes after purchase, it does not affect the tax on that transaction.
